Ministries for Children

St. Mary's is blessed to have a strong Children's Ministry program with many parents and parishioners who give of their time and efforts in this ministry. Whether it is weekly Sunday School classes or pre-school craft time or time spent in the nursery, the children have many fun opportunities to learn and grow in Christ.

Early Childhood Ministry Committee

The Early Childhood Ministry Committee (ECM) is a branch of Children's Ministry recently created as a way to focus on the needs of the youngest children of St. Mary's (newborn to 5 years) as well as their caregivers. ECM provides such activities and offerings as Gospel-based weekly craft time provided at the 9:00 and 11:30 a.m. services, upkeep of the Children's Worship Boxes, coordination of Nursery Room and Cry Room usage, and serving as the primary means of communication between the church and the St. Mary's Creative Playschool.

The committee also maintains the Young Disciples' Room which contains children's Christian literature and videos as well as parent support materials for check-out.

Children's Ministry Committee

The Children's Ministry Committee coordinates learning activities through fun events such as Kid Ventures, a varied selection of on-campus events including Children's Tea and the Pageant Audition Potluck and off-campus excursions to go roller skating or to create ceramics at the All Fired Up Studio or to go to the Build-A-Bear shop. Other fun events include Vacation Bible School, the Christmas Pageant and the Children's Choir.

Children's outreach activities include fund-raising for the Malawi Children's Village in Malawi, Africa. A special treat this year was the visit of Mr. Sibale from MCV when he came to Anchorage and visited the Sunday School classes. Other outreach events include the Buddy Bucket Program, the Salvation Army Angel Tree, and Christmas cards to hospitalized veterans.

The Children's Ministry Committee also offers Parenting Support Classes for those who want to learn more about understanding their part in the nurturing of their children.
