October 13 Receptions into the Episcopal Church
Bishop Mark Lattime will be making a pastoral visit to St. Mary's in October. In addition to baptism and confirmation, this visit provides an opportunity for those who wish to be formally received into the Episcopal Church.
Reception is a rite which welcomes, or "receives", those who have been confirmed in another Christian church into the Episcopal Church. The ceremony is a public affirmation of faith and commitment to baptism in the presence of and recognized by a bishop.
During the ceremony, the bishop places their hands on the candidate and welcomes them into the Episcopal Church, saying "We recognize you as a member of the one holy catholic and apostolic Church, and we receive you into the fellowship of this Communion."
