Feeding our neighbors

Have you heard about the months of delay in food assistance benefit distribution? FISH and other hunger agencies are bearing the brunt of this crisis. We are swamped with calls, and are operating at maximum capacity every delivery day! Please consider joining our corps of volunteers to help feed our hungry neighbors. There are several ways you can help:

  • Telephone callers: this can be done from home; you need a phone, a computer with Excel, and an internet connection
  • Food Packers: work at the FISH pantry on the St. Mary's campus in the morning on delivery days to pack grocery bags according to specific menu guidelines
  • Delivery drivers: use your own vehicle to drop food deliveries off in the afternoons or evenings

We ask that volunteers commit to working once per month (more is welcome!); volunteers typically spend 2-3 hours at their tasks. Sign up is easy with SignUpGenius, and you can choose a day that works best for you. Email Carla Wight or the FISH general information address to get started. Want more information? The local congregation of St. Mary's in Anchorage lives, works, and gathers for worship on the unceded lands of the Dena'ina people. We acknowledge the trauma caused by racism and oppression in the United States and the Church, and are committed to learning, growing, and working for meaningful healing and change.

We Believe:

...that God is calling us to grow and deepen our relationship with God in Christ Jesus, by becoming an ever more active inviting, inclusive and multicultural community of faith, intentionally inter-generational from infant to elder, always reaching out to those within and outside our community, with many small group opportunities in which to share and live our faith. We'd love for you to be a part of our lives together.

Inclusion Connect Card

Giving is a powerful spiritual practice. It's a statement of gratitude and trust in God.

At St. Mary's we encourage all our members to prayerfully consider giving abundantly toward causes that serve God's mission. We ask that part of that intentional giving be a pledge of financial support to our parish, both so our leadership can plan ahead in making a budget, and as a tangible commitment to what God is doing here at St. Mary's.
