Called to Serve

Acolyte Coordinator Wanted
Children and youth 8 years old and older may serve as acolytes and crucifers in our services, assisting with leading the congregation in worship. Many of our youth would like to begin or resume serving in this way, and they could use some help and training.
Do you have a love for youth? You can support St. Mary’s youth by working together with our Youth Minister and Vestry Worship Coordinator to create a meaningful acolyte program to guide and encourage our youth as they become active participants in worship services. Please email Charlene Davis, or call her at 907-444-9464, for a full description of this ministry position.
Did you know? The acolyte ministry goes back to Old Testament times. The Scriptures tell us of the prophet Samuel assisting Eli the priest, and of Elijah being assisted by Elisha. The word “acolyte” comes from the Greek word akolouthos, which means a servant or attendant who waits on another.
